WORKING WITH FORMERLY
INCARCERATED INDIVIDUALS

This workshop will provide participants an overview of working with formerly incarcerated individuals within underserved communities. Taking a Holistic Ecological perspective in working with vulnerable populations we will examine the barriers that exist within this population. Theories will be examined to best understand the notion of recovery as well as the exploration of the issues that exist when working with formerly incarcerated individuals residing in urban communities such as Los Angeles County and San Diego. Current interventions and policies addressing this population will also be discussed. By exploring potential root causes of reintegration of formerly incarcerated individuals, we can critically develop practices that address challenges for communities considered to have environmental risk to reduce recidivism.
